The Marcegaglia metallurgical group has signed an agreement with ENGIE to build two gas plants for the production of electricity and heat at its plants in Ravenna and Gazoldo degli Ippoliti (Mantova).
The two thermal cogeneration plants will become operational by 2020 and will develop a total power of 50 megawatts - 30 in Ravenna and 20 in Gazoldo degli Ippoliti - able to meet almost entirely the energy needs of the two Marcegaglia production sites for the processing of steel, with a reduction in electricity costs of over 25% and the emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere by 30%.
The investment for the construction of the two energy efficient plants will be around € 50 million and is part of the plan to strengthen all the various business segments of the Mantua industrial group.
«The industries that stand out are those that believe in development and innovation, investing to reduce costs and aiming for efficiency, including energy.
This partnership aims to achieve a solid balance between environmental protection and economic savings.
The two cogeneration plants will reduce the energy bill of the Ravenna and Gazoldo dei Ippoliti plants by over 25%, covering the energy needs of the sites for 100% of thermal energy and 80% of electricity and contributing to the reduction of atmospheric CO2 emissions by 30% ».
