Through the project company Telcha, ENGIE designed and constructed a 21 km district heating network in the city of Aosta, fired by a cogeneration plant that produces 46,000 MWh of heat per year. There are currently 230 users connected to this network.
The system was supplemented with an 18 MWt heat pump, one of the largest and most efficient present in Italy. When combined with cogeneration – with a 7 MWe gas motor – the plant recovers energy at low temperatures and this enables less primary energy to be consumed and, consequently, the emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere to be reduced.
Advantages of district heating
- About 5,600 tonnes of CO2 emissions avoided every year, equivalent to 4,610 fewer cars on the road.
- Reduction of 10% to 30% on annual energy bills.
