Cinisello Balsamo, June 14th 2018
We confirm our development plan for district heating by acquiring Cinisello Balsamo (Milan) district heating grid. We provide heat to over 130 condominiums (for about 50 GWh per year) and guarantee to the Cinisello Balsamo citizens 25% less pollutant emissions (CO2 and NOx) than with traditional heating systems.
Thanks to a scale savings and efficient production of energy delocalized from the city center, district heating allows an improvement in cities air quality, for the benefit of the entire community. Moreover, it eliminates any danger related to the presence of boilers inside the houses and ensures continuity of service.
We become the third district heating operator in Italy, managing 11 district heating networks. This responds to a strategy implemented globally by the Group, which has made ENGIE an industry leader with over 250 networks operating worldwide.
"District heating systems are an efficient, environment friendly, reliable and safe solution for all buildings in a city, whether they are public, residential or commercial. Thanks to the production with an efficient source (cogeneration, hydrogen) or renewable (biomass), the CO2 and NOx emissions into the atmosphere are halved, greatly reducing the pollution in the area and the related health risk. The acquisition of the district heating network of Cinisello Balsamo is a new concrete example of the will of ENGIE to develop district heating also in Lombardy, as a solution to make cities more and more smart, sustainable and efficient".
Matthieu Bonvoisin, Director of District Heating and Cogeneration ENGIE Italia.
